Tube Lights

LED tube lights replace fluorescent tubes in existing troffers, strip fixtures and wraps. They are one of the simplest ways to cut lighting energy use in offices, schools, retail stores, warehouses and back-of-house areas without replacing every fixture.

Edge LED helps commercial customers choose the right tube type for their existing fixtures and can handle the installation.

Common tube lengths

Tube lights are usually chosen to match the length of the fluorescent tubes already in place:

  • 2ft tubes, often found in 2x2 troffers and smaller fixtures
  • 4ft tubes, the most common length in offices, retail and commercial ceilings
  • 8ft tubes, used in long strip fixtures in warehouses, garages and stores

How LED tubes connect

Some LED tubes run on the existing fluorescent ballast, which makes installation quick but keeps the ballast in service. Others bypass the ballast and connect directly to line voltage, which removes the ballast but requires rewiring each fixture. Hybrid tubes can work either way. The right choice depends on the age of the ballasts, the number of fixtures and how long you want the upgrade to last.

When to replace the fixture instead

If fixtures are damaged, yellowed or hard to maintain, replacing them with LED troffers, panels or linear fixtures can be a better long-term option than retrofitting tubes. We can review both paths during a lighting assessment.
