Linear Lights
Linear LED fixtures are long, narrow lights hung from or mounted to open ceilings. They light aisles, production lines, gyms and back-of-house spaces with a long, even pattern that round high bays don't always match.
The fixtures listed here are Averlite G2 and G3 Series linear high bays and an Averlite linear low bay. Edge LED installs lighting in warehouses and other large commercial spaces and can help you compare linear and round high bay layouts.

Linear high bay vs. linear low bay
The difference is mounting height. Linear high bays are built for tall ceilings, such as warehouses, distribution centers and manufacturing floors. A linear low bay is meant for lower ceilings like workshops, garages, storage rooms and retail stockrooms. Using a high bay on a low ceiling tends to create glare and hot spots, while a low bay on a tall ceiling leaves the floor underlit.
Linear fixtures vs. round (UFO) high bays
Linear fixtures are often chosen where racking creates long, narrow aisles, because their shape spreads light along the aisle. Round high bays concentrate light in a circle and work well in open floor areas. Many buildings mix the two. Older fluorescent strip or T5 fixtures are usually replaced with linear LED fixtures, keeping a similar layout.
Planning considerations
- Ceiling height and the height of racking or equipment
- Aisle widths and fixture spacing along each aisle
- Mounting method, such as chain, cable or surface mounting
- Occupancy sensors for aisles that are used only part of the day
- Ambient temperature, since some spaces run hotter or colder than a standard warehouse
