Common areas, stairwells & shared parking

Apartment & Multifamily LED Lighting in Indianapolis

Shared lighting in an apartment community serves residents, visitors and property staff at different hours. Edge LED Lighting evaluates commercial common-area lighting, from corridors and stairs to entrances, laundry rooms and shared parking. Our installation team coordinates the defined work with your property contact, with attention to resident access and the boundaries of the project.

Start with the shared spaces residents use

A multifamily lighting review is not automatically an upgrade inside every dwelling. Common corridors, amenity spaces, service rooms and exterior routes can form a distinct project. Tell us which buildings and shared areas are included and who can authorize work at each location.

Existing fixture types, building ages and mounting conditions may vary across one property. We look at uneven coverage, glare toward windows and the relationship between interior and outdoor routes. A standardized fixture family may help consistency, but each location still needs a suitability check.

Commercial exterior lighting

01 / Project considerations

Corridors, stairwells and shared rooms

Corridor corners, door alcoves and stair landings can remain poorly covered even after a brighter lamp is installed. Fixture distribution, wall reflectance and mounting position influence how light reaches walking surfaces. We review these details alongside ceiling access and existing fixtures.

Laundry, mail and amenity rooms may need different coverage or controls from residential corridors. Existing emergency and exit systems should be identified before changes are scoped. A common-area lighting assessment is not a compliance certification or a substitute for required life-safety review.

  • Door alcoves and stair landings
  • Mail, laundry and amenity tasks
  • Emergency and exit-system coordination

02 / Project considerations

Entrances, pathways and resident parking

Building-mounted lights serve door approaches and nearby paths; pole fixtures serve broader parking areas. Trees, covered entries and parked vehicles can interrupt coverage. We consider where residents walk and how drivers approach the property, rather than applying one fixture choice to every exterior position.

Glare and spill toward bedroom windows or neighboring property require attention to output, shielding and mounting orientation. IES-based planning may be useful for a complex site. Modeled coverage supports decisions but does not guarantee security outcomes or eliminate the need to review actual conditions.

  • Pedestrian paths and covered entries
  • Light direction near resident windows
  • Pole heights and site geometry

03 / Project considerations

Resident communication and phased access

Work can require ladder or lift access in shared corridors and parking areas. Property management should identify notification requirements, accessible routes, tenant permissions and maintenance contacts. We discuss which spaces need to be cleared and what interruptions may occur.

Our installation team coordinates the agreed lighting work across the selected buildings or phases. Circuits, mounting condition and available compatible fixtures can influence the sequence. The quote should distinguish common-area work, exterior work and any separately requested dwelling-unit work rather than assume identical scope throughout.

  • Resident notices and shared routes
  • Building-by-building access
  • Clear common-area scope boundaries

From your facility to a practical plan

  1. STEP 01

    Define the facility scope

Share the location and the apartment & multifamily areas involved, current fixtures and the concerns that prompted the review.

  2. STEP 02

    Evaluate the lighting zones

Review room uses, mounting conditions, distribution and compatible controls. Discuss IES-based planning where the layout warrants it.

  3. STEP 03

    Confirm options and boundaries

Review proposed fixtures, installation access and any separately coordinated work. Clarify owner approvals and conditional utility-program questions.

  4. STEP 04

    Coordinate the installation

Arrange authorized access, work zones and a sequence with your facility contact and our installation team. Discuss affected areas before work begins.

Questions before you begin

Does this include lighting inside apartments?

The initial focus can be shared commercial common areas and exterior spaces. If dwelling-unit lighting is part of your request, identify it separately so access permissions, fixture choices and scope can be discussed.

Can outdoor fixtures reduce glare at windows?

Suitable optics, shielding and orientation may help. Mounting height, output and window locations still matter. We review the site rather than promise that a fixture label alone eliminates glare.

Can you evaluate several buildings together?

Yes, share the buildings within your proposed project. Existing conditions can differ, so a coordinated evaluation does not mean every building receives the same fixture or installation approach.

What should property management provide?

Share a site plan, common-area list, fixture photos and pole or ceiling heights if known. Include access restrictions and the property contact coordinating residents. Do not include resident personal information.
